Tony Payton's story is an important one. Young people can make change using many different strategies. The youth engagement field, in which many of us work, oftentimes encourage strategies like community organizing, media creation, and service. However, running for political office (and actually winning) should not be overlooked. Tony ran against an old school political machine that was no longer serving the people in the community who were not looking for jobs, contracts, or other favors. Now is establishing himself as a bona fide public servant and activist.
